The Interconnectedness of All Beings: Deepening Our Sense of Universal Unity

Sunday Awe

One of the most intriguing insights from quantum physics is the phenomenon of entanglement. When a particle is split into two, the resulting particles remain mysteriously linked. A change in one—say, reversing its spin—instantly causes the same change in the other, regardless of distance. This connection seems to defy the limits of space and time. Entanglement arises because both particles share a common origin.

A few years ago, this concept had a profound impact on my understanding of existence. According to the Big Bang theory, everything originated from a singularity, a point of infinite density. Sharing a common source, at some level, it seems that all that exists must be entangled.

From a theocentric view, the relevant question is: what did God create the universe from? If God made the cosmos out of absolute nothingness and separate from God, then God, who once was All, would somehow be less than All after creation. This feels theologically inconsistent. If God is truly the fullness of Being, then nothing exists outside of God—there is no “nothing” from which to create the universe. Creation must flow out of God’s very essence—an emanation of the Divine.

Scripture affirms this mysterious unity: God is “through all and in all” (Ephesians 4:6), and “Christ is all and in all” (Colossians 3:11). Whether through science or theology, the logical conclusion is the same—the universe has a single source and therefore is entangled, interconnected, and bound together in God.

This interconnectedness carries profound implications. It means that my choices, words, and actions ripple outward, influencing not only myself and those close to me, but the fabric of creation itself. The well-known “butterfly effect” illustrates this: even the smallest act has consequences far beyond what we can perceive. The apostle Paul reminds us that “If one member suffers, all suffer together; if one member is honored, all rejoice together” (1 Corinthians 12:26). Love and harm alike flow through the web of our shared existence, binding us in ways we cannot ignore.

The inferences herein are staggering. Every person, every creature, every aspect of creation is woven into a single, dynamic tapestry of Divine life. It is time to become…

Aware of our interconnectedness with one another and with God,
Wonder at the beauty and mystery of such unity,
Engage and Entangle life with kindness, reverence, and care.

If we embrace this vision, our spirituality becomes inseparable from our relationships, our environment, and our daily choices. The more we awaken to the reality of our interconnectedness, the more we will live with humility, compassion, and love—the more we live in AWE.
